Wow! This was unexpected - the demand for the new Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle on Amazon.com actually caused the site to crash, sending shares plummeting (PS3fanboy).
Metal gear is now approaching near unseen levels of hype (well, unseen since Halo 3 and GTA IV). A one of relatively few really big third party exclusive games this generation - and considering the paucity of true blockbusters from Sony themselves - the importance on MGS4 cannot be understated. It seems like fans agree!
Perhaps even more amazing is the fact the MGS4 has been given a 40/40 perfect score in Japanese gaming bible, Famitsu. Only seven games have ever achieved this honour.

However, it's only fair that there has been some controversy around the reviews - apparently Konami's PR Ninjas have been requesting that media outlets don't mention that the game requires a fairly hefty mandatory install on the PS3 HDD - or that two story scenes in the game come close to 90 minutes long! 90 minute cutscenes...!?
Our take: Mandatory installs suck - they are a sign that devs have not organised their data for efficient access from the blu ray disc. If Insomniac and Naughty Dog can make AAA games with no install, then others can too. At the very least, gamers should be given the option to install data - choosing between longer loads in-game or more disc space going for a burton.
As for the cutscenes...? Sorry, don't get it, Metal Gear is famed for long and obtuse cutscenes - it's only fitting for the series' swan song to take the same route.
All in all... WE CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME! We're sure Amazon will be glad when it's out, too!
